A shop you like
I'm not a big fan of shopping, but I love going to second-hand shops. I don’t always buy anything but I still like looking. When I was younger, in my Punk days, I used to buy a lot of second-hand clothes. When I first started to live on my own I bought a lot of second-hand furniture or things for my apartment. I also used to love buying second hand records (vinyl) and found a lot of bargains and rare records. Nowadays, I buy a lot of second-hand books, especially when I travel back to Britain. There is a big culture of second-hand shops in Britain and this is one of the things I miss about not living there any longer. I can spend hours and hours looking for books or other things that people had decided they don’t need any more. If you look carefully you can find some wonderful things.
Write about a shop you like to visit.
Say:
What it sells,
Why you like it,
When you went there for the first time,
How often you buy something,
What the last thing you bought there was.
Also say why you think you like this kind of shop.
Include any other information you think is important.
Write about 250 words, Don't forget to write comments on at least 3 of your classmates' blogs!

Strike !
I can't really claim to have a politcal past. When I was younger, I played a gig for the Rock Against Racism movement, demonstrated against Apartheid outside the South African Embassy in London, and went to lots of benefit concerts (especially for the Striking miners during the Thatcher years). The last demonstration I took part in was in 2003 when an estimated 1,000,000 people marched through London to protest against the invasion of Iraq (http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/2765041.stm).
Unfortunately, Bush & Blair didn't listen to the voice of the people who they were elected to serve.
So much for modern politics!
Write about the student demonstrations from your point of view.
Say:
Why students were demonstrating,
Whether or not you agree with the demonstrations,
Whether or not you took part in the demonstrations.
Mention anything else you think is important. Write at least 250 words. Leave a comment on your teacher's blog and the blogs of at least 3 classmates.

An Exhibition, Concert or Sporting Event
One of the most memorable gigs (concerts) I ever went to was the first time I saw David Bowie live. It was 1978 and I was 17 years old. I'd been a Bowie fan since I was 12 so seeing him live was one of the highlights of my teenage years.
The concert was in an old farm type complex near Birmingham (UK). I went with my girlfriend (Pauline), my sister (Moe)and her boyfriend (Ollie). The concert was at 8pm but we arrived at midday and there was already a big queue of hardcore fans.
The doors opened at 4pm and we got a great place right at the front of the building. The concert was all standing which was why I wanted to arrive so early.
When Bowie came on stage the crowd when beserk. It was an amazing feeling to actually see my hero in person. The whole concert was amazing from start to finish. Most of the material came from Heroes & Low, Bowie's most recent albums, but he also played songs from The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars and Station to Station.
The first 2 songs were quiet electronic songs but the 3 one was faster. At the point the place exploded with energy and I danced myself from the second row to about 8 rows back. The crowd was like a sea of bodies and you just had to flow with the current. Everything about the show was brilliant. The sound quality, the light show, the musicians and most of all Bowie's voice.
Obviously, I really enjoyed this event and even though I've seen Bowie in concert 5 or 6 times since then nothing can beat the sensation of that first concert. I think I spent the rest of the year with a smile on my face just thinking about it.
Write about an Exhibition, Concert or Sporting Event that you went to.
Say:
What, when & where it was,
Whether you enjoyed or not & why,
Why you decided to go to this event.
Mention anything else you think is important.
Write at least 250 words then leave a message on your teacher's blog and at least 3 of your classmates' blogs.

An Activity You Enjoy Doing in Your Free Time.
One of my favourite free time activities is making music. I play guitar and keyboard. I used to play in bands when I was younger but now I just make music as a hobby. I've been making music since I was about 13 or 14 years old. A friend gave me a guitar (or maybe I swapped it for something?) and I taught myself to play. A year or so later I bought a better guitar and when I was about 16 I bought a synthesizer.
I make music in my free time as often as I can. At times it's difficukt because it's a creative process and you can't really plan when you are going to be creative. Some times I start playing and I have no inspiration but other times inspiration comes quickly.
I guess I enjoy this activity because music is so tied in with our emotions. Sometimes you can express things through music that you can't express with words. Other times it's difficult to understand the emotions behind a certain piece of music but it just makes you happy or thoughtful or even sad or melancholic. I think the process of creating something new and original that expresses a feeling or feelings is a powerful thing.
So, write about an activity you enjoy doing in your free time.
Say;
What the activity is,
How often you do it,
How long you've been doing it and why you started,
Why you enjoy doing this activity.
Write at least 200 words. Leave a comment on your teachers blog and on 3 classmates' blogs.

A Good Movie
As a follow on from the activity we did in class last week, I'd like you to write about a good movie you've seen recently. In my case, I think the best movie I've seen recently has been Precious. It's about a young, obese, un-educated, black girl growing up in inner-city slums in North America. She is abused by her mother's boyfriend and has a very difficult life. Her mother is a drug addict and she doesn’t have any faith in education. All she cares about is her next fix. Precious (the main character) doesn’t really have any friends or hobbies and she spends a lot of her time daydreaming about being famous.
This is not an easy film to watch although it does have some lighter moments. It's very well acted and filmed. I like this kind of movie because it shows that poor people suffer all over the world (it doesn't matter if it's the so called first world or the third world) and that education makes a big difference. I saw this film about 2 or 3 weeks ago. It doesn’t have a big name actor and I think it was made on a low budget. The leading actress is Gabourey Sidibe, I think this is her first film.
I recommend it but be sure to have some paper tissues close at hand because it is quite sad at times.
So, what good movie have you seen recently?
Write about a film.
Say:
When you saw it,
Who stars in it,
What it's about,
And explain why you liked it.
Write at least 200 words and leave comments on at least 3 of your classmates' blogs and a comment on your teacher's blog.

Favourite Song at the Moment
OK Geo Bloggers.
Today's task is to write at least 150 words about your favourite song at the moment.
Say:
Who it is by,
What kind of music it is,
When you heard it for the first time
How often you listen to it,
And why you like it.
Once you've finished you have to comment on at least 4 of your classmates' blogs.
My favourite song at the moment is So Insane by Discovery. Discovery was formed by the Keyboard player from hip New York pop band Vampire Weekend and the singer from trendy New York pop band Ra Ra Riot.
The song is sort of 80's influenced electronic pop. I first heard this song in January because an ex-student (and friend) sent me an email telling me about all the different music he was listening to. This is one of the songs he highlighted. I listened to it and fell in love with the sound immediately.
LOVE AT FIRST LISTEN.
I listen to this song at least ten times a week. It is especially good if you listen to it on headphones at A VERY HIGH VOLUME. I copied it on to my telephone and i listen to it on the underground or when I'm in the supermarket. What I really like about this song is the way it throbs out of the speakers (headphones). The change of tempo for the chorus is very clever and not the sort of thing you usually hear in a pop song. There are some other good tracks on the Discovery cd (I also really like Can You Discover). I also took a listen to Ra Ra Riot and looked at some videos on youtube, they are worth listening to if you like intelligent pop music.
BE WARNED!! This pop is addictive
So Insane (Lyrics)
When I saw you at the discotheque
Send my vibe out to you
Then we met up on the dancefloor when
Said I'm gonna teach you,
gonna teach you, teach you
Oh baby you got me going so insane I just don't know what's going down
Oh I try to get off my knees and try to fight fight those feelings, but I can't
Ooh baby you got me going so insane and I just don't know what's going down
And I try to get off my knees and try to fight fight this feeling, but I can't
Now that you're here I know just what to do
Now that you're here I'm gonna come come to you
Now that you're, now that you're, now, now, now, now
I know just what to do
know that you're here I'm gonna come come to you
Oh baby you got me going so insane I just don't know what's going down
Oh I try to get off my knees and try to fight fight those feelings, but I can't
Ooh baby you got me going so insane and I just don't know what's going down
And I try to get off my knees and try to fight fight this feeling, but I can't
I don't even know what to do, do thatI can't help this feeling
Baby you got me goingI don't even know what to do
And I don't, and I do, even know, I can't help this feeling
And I don't even know what to do
I don't even know what to do
Ooh, I don't even know what to do
